Tony Blair and Li Bingbing praise success of Million Forest campaign for China after just one year..

Tony Blair attended the first anniversary of the Million Forest campaign today in Shanghai with Chinese actress and project ambassador Li Bingbing where they celebrated reaching the initial target in just one year.

Both Mr Blair and Li Bingbing helped launch the Million Forest campaign last August in Beijing, which is organised by The Climate Group, China Green Foundation and UNEP.

The project aims to help people living in the eco vulnerable area of northwest China to combat climate change through planting sea buckthorn trees, which will benefit the region environmentally and economically. Individuals can join the project by adopting sea buckthorn trees for 5 RMB each.

Tony Blair praised the program for reaching its first goal of 1,000,000 trees in just one year – which will benefit 2,500 local families.

He called for continued efforts from both government and at an individual level, to help people who are suffering from poverty caused directly or indirectly from climate change, in this case, the increasing frequency of draught.

Mr Blair also presented awards to three outstanding partners of the project in the last year with Li Bingbing. They are are China Union Pay, Ping An, and Shenzhen Development Bank.
