Statement from the Office of Tony Blair on Andy McSmith’s Independent diary article

“The diary article published by The Independent today about Tony Blair is both totally inaccurate and wildly out of date. We were not approached about the story and had we been, we would have pointed out that the quote on which it is based, is almost a year out of date and no longer reflective of the current situation in the Middle East.”

UPDATE - After we raised this with The Independent, the article was removed from the website and a correction was published in the newspaper on page 2 the following day:

"In Tuesday's edition we inadvertently used an old quote by a Palestinian official about Tony Blair's role as peace envoy. We are happy to acknowledge that those words may no longer represent the Palestinian authorities' views on Mr Blair."
