Random House launch 'Tony Blair: A Journey' dedicated website

With one month to go to the publication of 'Tony Blair: A Journey', Random House today announced the launch of a new website www.tonyblairjourney.co.uk. The site will include video content and previously unseen photographs; extracts from the book will be released on the site immediately prior to publication.

As previously announced, Hutchinson will publish Tony Blair: A Journey in hardback on 1st September 2010, with a simultaneous edition available as an eBook and in audio, read by Tony Blair. The book will be released globally on the same day and translation rights have been sold in 14 territories worldwide.

On the new website, Tony Blair describes writing A Journey as a “fascinating and enjoyable experience” and gives us a sense of what we can expect from the memoir:

“I set out to write a book which would give the reader an insight into the human as well as the political dimensions of life as a Prime Minister. So it’s a frank account of my life in politics which illuminates what it’s like to be a leader both for the UK and also on the international stage. It charts the difficult decisions, the highs and the lows.

“In my ten years as Prime Minister, we had a huge reform programme in public services and the constitution and other issues within the UK. I was involved of course in major international events like Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan Iraq. And of course, we had major events like the Good Friday Peace Agreement.”

Tony Blair hopes to not only take the reader behind the sense of political life, but to draw out lessons about what it’s like to be a political leader in difficult and challenging times. He said:

“One of the most pleasurable things about writing this book was to be able to take time to look back and reflect on my political career so far. So, although a memoir is of course necessarily retrospective, I found that writing this account of events also helped shape my thoughts about the future.

“I hope that A Journey gives you, the reader, a greater understanding of life as a leader and as a politician. And above all, I hope it is a book that is as enjoyable to read as it was for me to write it.”
