Faith Shorts is a film competition for under 25 year olds and under, to increase understanding between those of different religions and to open up access to filmmaking.
This is an opportunity for aspiring filmmakers to have their work shown on the stage as the three winning entrants will come to London to introduce their film as it is premiered at BAFTA in July 2010 in front of representatives from the film, television and faith world. Young people around the world are being asked to make a short film demonstrating how their faith inspires them. Lack of access to equipment should not be a barrier to taking part and if they don’t already have a camera they can submit a short written pitch by the 12th April for the chance to win a portable video camera to make their film. Those who already have access to filming equipment have until 15 May to submit their fully completed film online.
The films will be judged by Tony Blair and a panel of global personalities including Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan, Jonathan Caplan, Amr Khaled, Jet Li, Wendi Murdoch, Natalie Portman, Nik Powell, June Sarpong, and, Deepak Verma.
Pitches will be accepted in English, French, Spanish, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Hebrew and Mandarin.
The film competition is already generating a great deal of excitement:
“By gaining insights into the lives of young people across the world this competition has the potential to build bridges across cultural and religious divides.
“I hope this competition will provide a platform for creative and talented young people and an opportunity for young filmmakers to see their work promoted on the global stage.
Tony Blair.
“I'm delighted to be a part of the judging committee for the Tony Blair Faith Foundation’s Faith Shorts competition. The way I interpret the idea behind this festival is that faith doesn't have to be a separator, but rather, it can unite us. Best of luck to all the entrants; make terrific movies!" Jet Li
“Everyone at BAFTA will be delighted that the Tony Blair Faith Foundation’s Faith Shorts competition is encouraging young people across the world to get involved in the
medium of film and providing new opportunities of expression through film making.” Kevin Price, Chief Operating Officer of BAFTA
