Tony Blair welcomes new Colombia peace process
Wednesday, Sep 05, 2012 in Office of Tony Blair
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and the Farc, Colombia's largest rebel group, have laid out details of their planned peace talks, in an historic attempt to end the 50 year old conflict.
Commenting on the announcement, Tony Blair said:
"I warmly welcome the announcement by President Santos. As I know from Northern Ireland, to talk to those who have engaged in terrorism and crime is a very hard thing to do. But in the interests of a future different from the past it is necessary and it is worth doing. Now Farc has the opportunity to reform, change and provide a way forward free from the bloodshed and misery of previous years. I applaud the determination and courage of President Santos, which builds on the substantial legacy of President Uribe".
