OQR Report - Action in Support of Palestinian Authority State-Building

The Quartet Representative presented a report at the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) meeting in Brussels, 13 April 2011, on his and the OQR’s work in support of the Palestinian Authority’s state-building program. The report also provides an update on implementation of the package of measures agreed with the Government of Israel on 4 February 2011. The report covers developments in the areas of Gaza, movement and access, private sector development, use of Area C, East Jerusalem, the rule of law and tourism promotion. Commenting on the publication of the report, Quartet Representative Tony Blair: "Palestinians state building under the Palestinian Authority and Prime Minister Fayyad is a bright light amongst a lot of diplomatic darkness. It shows what can be done; how the Palestinians are able to govern a state and therefore the vital importance of re energising the political process. Palestinian state building is also an important factor in addressing Israel's real security concerns."
