Quartet to invite Palestinians and Israelis leaders to meet in coming days
Sunday, Oct 09, 2011 in Office of Tony Blair, Office of the Quartet RepresentativeQuartet Representative Tony Blair and Quartet Envoys met in Brussels today to follow up on September's meeting and the statement agreed at the United Nations in September.
Speaking after the meeting, Quartet Representative Tony Blair said: "Today's meeting showed the Quartet's commitment to the timetable for talks set out in our September statement. We look forward to meeting with the parties shortly. This provides us with the opportunity to explore grounds for revived negotiations to take place."
Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, who hosted the meeting in Brussels, said afterwards:
"I was very pleased to host the Quartet envoys here in Brussels today. Following the successful meeting we had with my Quartet colleagues in New York, we discussed what to do next to encourage our Israeli and Palestinian partners to resume substantive negotiations as soon as possible.
"With that in mind we will be contacting the Parties to invite them to meet in the coming days. I believe we have made good progress and will keep in close contact with Quartet partners and colleagues in the region with view to meet and move things forward."
