Tony Blair meets with the Council for the Religious Institutions of the Holy Land in Jerusalem
Monday, Jun 20, 2011 in Office of the Quartet Representative
Quartet Representative Tony Blair met the Council for the Religious Institutions of the Holy Land (CRIHL) in Jerusalem today to discuss the challenges facing the Holy Land and the role religions can play in building a new future for the region.
The following religious leaders represented the CRIHL:
- Patriarch Fouad Twal, Roman Catholic Archbishop and Patriarch of Jerusalem
- Bishop Munib Younan, Evangelical Lutheran Church Bishop of Palestine and Jordan
- Saleh Zuheikah, Palestinian Ministry of the Waqf and Religious Affairs
- Oded Wiener, Director-General of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel
- Rabbi David Rosen, Adviser to the Chief Rabbinate on Interfaith Affairs
Tony Blair and the CRIHL – which represents all recognised religious institutions in the Holy Land – agreed on the crucial importance of involving religious leaders in efforts to achieve a settlement to the conflict in the Holy Land.
They discussed the CRIHL's important interfaith work to create a culture of peace and address issues of shared interest such as incitement and access to the holy places of Jerusalem.
Tony Blair encouraged the Israeli and Palestinian authorities to continue and expand their support for the CRIHL, and all agreed to meet again soon.
