Tyne Bridge Harriers joins Tony Blair Sports Foundation Coaches for Clubs campaign

The North East's newest running club has become the first club to sign up to the Tony Blair Sports Foundation's 2012 Coaches for Clubs campaign.  Formed in January this year, Tyne Bridge Harriers are based at the East End pool in Byker and have quickly grown a membership of over 60 runners.  The club caters for both male and female athletes and welcomes all abilities - and new runners are especially welcome.

In order to help them build capacity and make sure they have fully trained volunteers and coaches, the Foundation has recruited 3 club members onto the England Athletics Leadership in Running course taking place on Sunday 10th July at Churchill Playing Fields, Whitley Bay.  Once qulaified these members will be able to lead a group to provide a safe and enjoyable running experience for people over 18 years of age regardless of ability or age.

Club Secretary, Kenny McPherson who recently met with the Foundation to agree their partnership plans says:

"We are happy to be working with the Tony Blair Sports Foundation to help promote athletics in Newcastle and we'd like to thank them for their valuable support.  Having more trained coaches means we can increase our membership knowing that new runners will get the best help and advice right from the start.  Our training sessions are free and I'd urge anyone wanting to give running a try to come along and join us - you've nothing to lose!"
