Wednesday, Apr 27, 2011 in Sports Foundation
TBSF Athletics Coach, John Renney gave up his Easter weekend to take a group of youngsters from a local school to the Track & Field Open competition being held in Hexham.
The competition, organised by Team Decathlon, saw young people take part in the Team Decathlon Challenge which consisted of a 75m sprint, standing long jump, howler throw and 600m run.
Since John qualified through the Foundation as a Level 2 Athletics Coach he has been determined to provide opportunities for young people to take part in local events and this weekend's outing to Hexham meant that the youngsters were able to take part in competition for the very first time.
Arlene Ainsley TBSF's Membership Recruitment and Retention Manager said:
"John has been coaching Athletics to youngsters since becoming a member of the Foundation in December 2009 and has been working with Rockcliffe School since the beginning of November 2010. The work that he does on a weekly basis both at the school and at his local club North Shields Poly AC is very much appredciated by the young people and we would like to thank him for all the hard work he does in getting more children active in sport."
After the event, John said:
"The kids were fantastic and really enjoyed the experience. The 600m final race of the day was a real crowd pleaser and pretty emotional for the parents! A great end to a successful day."
