Inspiring the North East

Inspired by 2012, the 'Coaches for Clubs' campaign sees the Foundation team up with school and sports clubs across the North East to inspire people to become volunteers, coaches and officials in the communities that need them most. The Inspire mark is an entirely new programme, something that no previous Olympic Games or Paralympic Games has done and shows how the Sports Foundation is working to provide the North East with an Olympic legacy.

Tony Blair Sports Foundation Tennis Challenge Cup Final 2012

The Grand Final of the 2012 Tony Blair Sports Foundation Tennis Challenge Cup took place at Sunderland Tennis Centre on Friday 6 July.  Watch how the young competitors got on during the Tennis Factory skills challenges which, along with individual tennis matches, made up the day's competition.

24 Hour Treadmill Challenge

On 1 and 2 June 2012, TBSF member Graham Smith and a team of volunteers took part in a 24 hour treadmill challenge at Northumbrian Water to raise money for The Tony Blair Sports Foundation.  The event was organised by Graham, who used his stints on the treadmill to contribute towards his challenge of running 2012 miles in 2012 to raise £2,012 for the Foundation.  Thanks to everyone who took part - this video shows how they got on during the 24 hours.

Interview with SABC, South Africa - Speaking at the Beyond Sport Summit in Cape Town, Tony Blair hailed the African continent, saying it's on the brink of fulfilling its potential. Tony Blair was attending the annual Summit in his role as Chairman of Ambassadors for Beyond Sport, an organisation which uses sport as a catalyst for social change.

Tony Blair video address for USAID’s Frontiers in Development Conference

In a video address to the USAID Frontiers in Development Conference, AGI Patron Tony Blair said that we need new thinking and a new approach to keep up with the increasing rate of positive change in Africa.

He went on to argue that that the biggest opportunity in development today lies in a new generation of political leaders like President Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, also speaking at today’s conference, ready to take their countries’ destinies into their own hands. And that what these leaders need around them is capacity to get things done.

In front of audience of political leaders, development professionals and civil society Mr Blair added that development actors need to support Africa’s political leaders by placing governance at the heart of how we think about development.
